1) "What's your favorite all around / most useful piece of gear ? "
"Sir-Packs-Alot": The gray matter between my ears (and rubber bands)
"Shamrock: 1 gallon double lock (without slider) Ziploc Freezer Bags
"Tyke": 'one of those small hard cases that hold 3 individual use Crazy Glues'
2) "What's your favorite trail stove ?"
"Sir-Packs-Alot": Solo hiking = Snowpeak's 1.5 oz "Litemax"

"Shamrock": "Shamrock's Aluminum Bottle Stove"

3) "What's your favorite all purpose backpack ?"
"Tyke": The Gregory Baltoro - period. This is not only my favorite "guide pack"
- but 'in my book' - this sturdy classic is THE pack for large and small
loads - lot's of convenient details - but a tad too "bomber" for the
ultralight crowd !
4) "What's your favorite raingear ?"
"Sir-Packs-Alot' & "Shamrock" agree: 'hands down - Sea to Summit's Cordura
Tarp Poncho. 12 oz, covers you & pack with
good ventilation, doubles as tarp shelter in
warmer months (but don't tarp with it in the
White Mts. above treeline-right Shamrock?)'
